Our tour guide will pick you up from your accommodation in Cairo early in the morning in an air-conditioned vehicle for the journey to Fayoum Oasis. The ancient Egyptians revered this area as the center of worship for the crocodile god Sobek. You will begin your visit by seeing the seven great water wheels, a key symbol of Fayoum Oasis, which are scattered across the region.
Next, you will visit Lake Qarun, Egypt’s largest salt lake and one of the oldest natural lakes in the world. The area around the lake is rich in agricultural produce, with various fruits and vegetables growing nearby. It is also a prime location for observing migratory birds during the winter months. After enjoying the tranquil surroundings, you will have a picnic lunch to relax and recharge.
After lunch, you’ll head to Wadi El Rayan, a protected area since 1989. This natural wonder, with its lakes and waterfalls, offers opportunities for swimming and exploring its beautiful surroundings. It’s a perfect spot for both adventure and relaxation.
In the evening, we will take you back to your Fayoum hotel for an overnight stay.
Meals: Lunch – Dinner
After breakfast, head to Wadi El Hitan (Valley of the Whales), a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005. This area is famous for its fossilized remains, including the bones of ancient whales and sea cows, dating back over 200 million years. The fossilized skeletons and bones are a testament to a time when the desert was once covered by water. Some of the bones and complete whale skeletons are displayed in the open space of the park for visitors to admire.
Next, travel a few hundred meters south of Wadi El Rayan Road to Gebel El Mudawwara, a rock formation known for its striking multi-layered appearance and symmetry. Although not a true mountain, it offers spectacular views and geological features.
Continue your journey to Karanis, an ancient Ptolemaic city that now lies in ruins. Karanis is home to numerous Roman, Coptic, and early Islamic monuments, providing a fascinating glimpse into Egypt’s past.
Finally, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Cairo, concluding your tour.
